2011 Sendai Earthquake was a 8.9-scala Richter off the coast of Japan that occurred at 14:46 Japan local time on Friday 11 March 2011. The earthquake triggered extremely destructive tsunami waves of up to 10 meters (33 ft) that struck Japan minutes after the quake, in some cases traveling up to 10 km (6 mi) inland.

The Fukushima Daiichi consisting of a total six reactors, were automatically shutdown following the earthquake. Officials from the Japan, have reported that radiation levels inside the plant are up to 1,000 times normal levels.
